OUTSTANDING DIRECTING FOR A COMEDY SERIES

Donald Glover for ("B.A.N."), Atlanta
Aziz Ansari for ("The Thief"), Master of None
Alan Young for ("New York, I Love You"), Master of None
Marta Cunningham for ("Exciting and New"), Transparent
Stephen Falk for ("Twenty-Two"), You're the Worst

AND THE WINNER IS:

AZIZ ANSARI FOR ("THE THIEF"), MASTER OF NONE

This is the third win for Aziz Ansari. He won for writing in a comedy series and previously won as a part of the ensemble of Parks and Recreation (2011). He was nominated for producing Master of None (2016) and in the ensemble of Parks and Recreation (2010, 2012-2013, 2015).

Aziz Ansari blew my mind away and like many people who might've been skeptical as to whether he could match the success of the first season of his Netflix show from the first episode of the second season which he wins for there was no question that there was no fluke to Ansari's creative skill. "The Thief" is a homage to the 1948 feature The Bicycle Thief and it's completely original in terms of delivery while also paying proper respect to the film classic it is designed after. Aziz surprisingly proved himself as a talented director to his already rewarded writing skill with his work on the season premiere.
