Noah Hawley and Bob DeLaurentis for ("Aporia"), Fargo
Tim Minear for ("Mommie Dearest"), Feud: Bette and Joan
Ryan Murphy for ("And the Winner is... (The Oscars of 1963)"), Feud: Bette and Joan
Andrew Haigh and Michael Lannan for Looking: The Movie

AND THE WINNER IS:

DAVID E. KELLEY FOR BIG LITTLE LIES

This is the first win and second nomination for David E. Kelley. He was previously nominated for producing The Practice (2001) and he wins for writing Big Little Lies.

Big Little Lies became a sort've a television phenomenon at the beginning of the year. Kelley hasn't really had a series hit this so talked about in over a decade but with his adaptation for this series it's clear he hasn't lost any of the spark he had when he was the top series creator at the turn of the millennium. He took a good novel and turned it into a great series that fully explored the life of these five central women. Kelley had dark material to blend with lighter moments and never did any total shift feel opposite from the other and feel of the one piece.
