AND THE WINNER IS:

STORY BY TOM SPEZIALY AND DAMON LINDELOF; TELEPLAY BY TOM PERROTTA AND DAMON LINDELOF FOR ("THE BOOK OF NORA"), THE LEFTOVERS

This is the second win, third win and fourth win for Tom Perrotta, Tom Spezialy and Damon Lindelof respectfully. Perrotta previously was nominated for producing The Leftovers (2015) and won for producing the show last year. Spezialy won for producing Desperate Housewives (2005) and The Leftovers (2016). Lindelof previously won for producing Lost (2005), The Leftovers (2016) and writing The Leftovers (2016). He was also nominated for producing Lost (2006, 2009), The Leftovers (2015) and writing Lost (2007).

The series finale of The Leftovers had such high expectations due to the great respect the show had gotten throughout it's short and well praised run. I was thankful that the finale turned out as successful as it had. For a show focused on an ensemble of people for most of it's run the choice to largely focus on the romance at the center of the show was clearly the right choice. I will always go back to final moments shared between Nora and Kevin, the monologue about what the other world is like delivered by Coon is so filled with fact you might've believed it to be true. It's one of the best series finales I've seen and a lot of that comes down to the character beats written into the script which allowed it's cast to really hit me with such high emotions.
