OUTSTANDING WRITING FOR A COMEDY SERIES

Pamela Adlon, Louis C.K. and Cindy Chupack for ("Future Fever"), Better Things
Jenni Konner and Lena Dunham for ("Goodbye Tour"), Girls
Issa Rae for ("Broken as Fuck"), Insecure
Aziz Ansari and Lena Waithe for ("Thanksgiving"), Master of None
Faith and Jill Soloway for ("Exicting and New"), Transparent

AND THE WINNER IS:

AZIZ ANSARI AND LENA WAITHE FOR ("THANKSGIVING"), MASTER OF NONE

This is the first win for Lena Waithe and second for Aziz Ansari. Waithe is nominated for the first time and Aziz wins again on his seventh nomination. He previously won as part of the ensemble of Parks and Recreation (2011) and was nominated for producing Master of None (2016) and in the ensemble of Parks and Recreation (2010, 2012-2013, 2015).

Master of None was a breakout in its first season and in it's second season it became a masterwork. Aziz embraced the history and art of classic film for a lot of the season which led to thrilling results. The writing of every episode is singular and completely separate from most other episodes during a season. The "Thanksgiving" episode co-written by stars Ansari and Waithe was a personal compliment to Waithe and her struggles of growing up gay in an environment that is not the most accepting. This story has been told through the male's eye many times but from the female perspective it has rarely been told and thankfully this episode was created as it is a marvelous half an hour of tv.
