OUTSTANDING LEADING ACTRESS IN A MINISERIES OR MOVIE

Carrie Coon as Gloria Burgle in "FARGO"
Mackenzie Davis as Yorkie in "BLACK MIRROR: SAN JUNIPERO"
Nicole Kidman as Celeste Wright in "BIG LITTLE LIES"
Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford in "FEUD: BETTE AND JOAN"
Susan Sarandon as Bette Davis in "FEUD: BETTE AND JOAN"
Reese Witherspoon as Madeline Martha Mackenzie in "BIG LITTLE LIES"

AND THE WINNER IS:

NICOLE KIDMAN AS CELESTE WRIGHT IN "BIG LITTLE LIES"

This is the first win and second nomination for Nicole Kidman. She was previously nominated for Hemingway & Gellhorn (2012) and she wins for her performance as Celeste Wright on Big Little Lies.

Nicole Kidman is having a moment and everyone knows it. 2017 is turning into a highpoint in the career of Kidman, this domination might've began with the carry on love for her work in Lion it was her involvement in the HBO miniseries Big Little Lies which launched her back into the minds of the mainstream. She was great as Celeste from the beginning, however once the series shined a light on the spousal abuse plotline involving Celeste and her husband Kidman's work became all anybody could talk about. Kidman was quietly powerful in her scenes of violent abuse and when she sat down for her therapist scenes Kidman displayed her immense skill that thankfully had not gone quiet after playing a multitude of roles that did not require this intense skill. I'm glad that Kidman has sort've been given a comeback narrative for two reasons. First being she's one of the great screen sirens and second being this is a performance worthy of that supposed comeback.
